Step One: Preparation

To start, place a piece of cardboard on the floor under your vehicle’s engine. Cleaning the engine will cause the grease that has accumulated to flow out. It is therefore advisable to protect your floor.

Now you can get down to business. Start by removing the most visible debris that can be easily removed by hand. For example, take care of pine needles, possible dust nests, etc.

Next, start your vehicle and let the engine run for about 5 minutes. There is really no need to leave it on for longer than that. Leaving your engine running helps the grease soften and makes it easier to clean.

Finally, protect all the electrical parts under your hood and disconnect your battery. You can also remove it completely if you feel the need. To do this, use an adjustable wrench and undo the “-” handle that corresponds to the black terminal. If you want to remove it completely, also remove the “+” terminal and unscrew the button at the bottom of the battery. You can then remove it easily. Be careful, if you decide to leave your battery in place, make sure that the black cable does not touch the “-“ terminal. To protect the electrical parts, cover them with plastic, such as a white bag.

Step two: engine cleaning

You can now move on to completely cleaning your engine. To do this, first equip yourself with an engine degreaser. Using its straw-shaped tip, you can easily spray the product over the entire surface to be degreased. Warning: carefully read the instructions and the instructions for use before handling the product. Do not apply engine cleaner to stainless steel, chrome or painted parts.

Let the product sit for 5 to 10 minutes. During this time, wear safety glasses and disposable gloves. Safety first! Product particles could be thrown up, so protect yourself. After putting them on, use a stiff-bristled nylon brush. Scrub the entire surface that you covered with engine cleaner. The grease will then flow underneath your vehicle: hence the importance of having protected it beforehand.

Last step: rinse and clean your vehicle

Use a regular garden hose to gently rinse your engine. Don’t use too much pressure, as this could undo connections or infiltrate poorly protected parts under your hood. Once the rinse is complete, your engine should be clean. If it is not yet, you can repeat the engine cleaning operation using your cleaning product.

Finally, reconnect your battery and clean the exterior of your vehicle. This will prevent the engine cleaner from disintegrating the paint on the bodywork.
